hThere
is a protest taking part on Sun 16th Nov at 12.30 from the Lower Barn to
support the friends of Lever Park in their campaign to stop the Go Ape
development. Any horse riders would be greatly appreciated...on foot or
horseback, as if the development gets the go ahead, riders will be forced
onto a busy stretch of road with no verge or pavements or run the risk of
seriously injuring someone if their horse spooks at people flying round in
trees over its head. The aerial runway will be sited over a bridleway which
forms part of the Pennine feeder route so please support this peaceful
protest or this will just be the start of the demise of Rivington as we know
it. To sign the online petition go to

New Bridleway
The first new
bridleway in many years has opened from Fallbirch
in Lostock to Matchmoor Lane in Horwich which will cut out Chorley Old Road and Old Kiln Lane for many riders. You will need to register to use the
route and receive the key code for the locks. Members can contact BBA for
registration forms
Nellies Clough
Progress at last. BBA
and the council have finally agreed a compromise over Nellies
Clough after years of campaigning to get horses off New Chapel Lane. The new bridleway
will cut New Chapel out altogether and will eventually get riders from the
Heaton and Lostock areas into Rivington
without going on any major roads apart from to cross them. We have Marie
Jones from the Rights Of Way department to thank for her hard work in getting
this project off the ground. The new West Pennine
Bridleway Strategy is also due into effect over the next 7 years and this
will see a number of bridleways opening in the Bolton area. It is largely because of bridleway groups
(especially SDBA) that any of this has got off the ground. We expect a big
increase in members as this has come about from our hard work on your behalf
so don’t forget to renew.
Headline News
SDBA has become Bolton
Bridleways Association by popular demand!! We have changed our name after
being asked by the Council and its representatives as we are thought of as
“the most organised and active of the Bridleway
groups they deal with in the area.”
Committee Meetings are
held at The Blundell Arms, Chorley Old Road starting at 8.30pm.All members
welcome to attend.
